Click bait is hardly new. If I were asked if this was a photo taken from the pages of a Playboy magazine from the 80's versus the full back page ad on Porsche Club of America’s magazine, The Panorama, received today, I would have guessed Playboy if I didn’t get time to sleuth out the answer.

Still talking about K-Band, eh? I remember that being the hot thing then too.

The best radar detector I’ve ever owned is a pair of eyes watching for tail lights on the freeway. That and Waze.

Yeah, that one irks me every time I open the little plastic covering to Panorama. The front? Nice photograph. The back? This shit. Ugh.

Is this thing still useful? I get that radar detectors are used today but V1 seems to have the same look as when I was much much younger

all the cops near me use LIDAR, so I wouldn’t rely on it. Better off just not speeding.

I think they finally started using a newer photo of Dr. Winifred Cutler about 10 years ago.

I agree that the best radar detector is a watchful pair of eyes and common sense for when you can get away with speeding.

It’s still pretty useful, they just don’t change the exterior design when they update the internals. They are on something like 9-10 hardware revisions I think.

Isn’t that a portmanteau of Lie and Radar? Every speeding ticket I’ve gotten used that.

My father got me a V1 for my high school graduation in 2003. I’ve updated it several times (you send it in they update the guts/firmware) for a small fee.

It’s not very useful in my home state of PA, but everywhere else it has worked well. Waze is just as good if not better at this point. I went to college in Vermont, and it saved me many tickets on the NY thruway.

It’s great for late night drives, or on roads less traveled and thus not as frequently updated by users on waze.

Admittedly I’ve not used it in years, it stays in the M3 and when I drive that I ain’t care about a ticket:)
